About Cogniskillslec

Cogniskills Learning Enhancement Center is a learning enhancement and improvement resource facility, which provides cognitive skills training, and enablement assets that target the underlying mental and reading skills of its clients that are vital for easy, fast and effective learning. This is done through intense, challenging procedures that significantly impact mental abilities positively.

Cognitive skills are the underlying tools that enable us to successfully think, prioritize, plan, understand, visualize, remember, create useful associations and solve problems. These skills include: attention, working memory, processing speed, visual processing, logic and reasoning, auditory processing, long-term memory and comprehension skills. Each of these skills plays a specific and necessary role, and must work in concert before an individual can learn effectively. Weak skills result in a diminished capacity to learn and perform. Cognitive skills are vital not only for learning but also for various tasks or jobs that require different levels of mental abilities. Consequently, if these cognitive skills are developed and strengthened, more effective work is done. For over 40 years, science has continued to confirm that cognitive skills can be developed and strengthened.

Our programs are based on scientific learning and reading principles that have been researched and developed in the United States of America and South Africa by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, to quickly and significantly build those underlying mental skills which are responsible for effective learning.

This is a totally new concept and the first of its kind in Nigeria, though widely used in United States and Europe.

  2. What are cognitive skills and how do they affect individual specific learning?

Cognitive skills are the unseen foundation for all learning.  Individual cognitive skills are what we measure, then combine and average to determine a general IQ score.  Cognitive skills are what every individual uses to process, categorize and make sense out of what we see, hear, taste, smell, and touch. We put our cognitive skills to use every time we try to remember a fact, directions, or a person's name.  In short, our cognitive skills are the tools we use to handle every bit of information we encounter throughout our life.

Everyone has cognitive abilities, but not everyone's cognitive abilities are the same. While it is accurate to understand that some innate differences in potential are fixed, cognitive abilities are generally modifiable. People can improve their cognitive capacity, speed and accuracy.  When they do, everything that relies on those cognitive abilities gets easier, faster and more efficient.  That is especially true of learning. To examine the case for weak cognitive skills being the main barrier to learning consider the paper Causes and Symptoms.

  3. I think this a very good development except for the bitter truth that our society is just too slow at receiving noble ideas that are before our generation unknown. I wish more publicity/ awareness is made about programme and the government brought it for quick and wide acceptability by the populace. I wish Cogniskillslec all the best and implore the management not to rest on it's oasis.
